Purpose of the Project
Deaf people communicate daily and with complete fluency through means of their own language: Sign Language.
As hand sign represents a quantity of sounds unheard by those without the ability to hear, it is a well-established fact that Sign Language is truly a language, the language of the deaf.
Every gesture-based language differs from country to country, each having thousands of signs and a distinct grammatical structure. Therefore, sign-language interpreters with the ability to hear have had to study many years in order to be able to communicate clearly with people who suffer from this disability.
Although many churches have sign-language interpreters, LETRA Argentina wants to put the Bible within reach of all the deaf, so that it can have an impact on their lives.
As videos of the Sign Language Bible are being produced, LETRA Argentina is working in a complementary project. The project is intended to impact the lives of deaf people though printed material in Sign Language. This can be achieved with photo-like drawings ordered in such a way that they can be read by the deaf with total clarity:
John 3:16 in Sign Language

Some of our plans include:
• Printing a tract of John 3:16 to distribute amongst the deaf population in Argentina.
• Translating texts from the Bible and other documents of high spiritual, social, political and cultural value.
• Placing posters and signs in public at events and programs containing phrases of impact.
• Developing a weekly informative bulletin for deaf people, printed with sign-language drawings on important topics;
• Making t-shirts with messages in sign-language pictures;
• Printing individual paper placemats, especially for restaurants, bars etc.
• Creating a web site that can be consulted by the deaf, mostly in Argentine Sign Language, as well as others.
We trust that this tool will have a tremendous reach.
God has guided us to this plan, and we are carrying it through.
LETRA Argentina will not use these initiatives as a means of financial gain, but rather for the free benefit of the deaf population in Argentina. Our primary goal is:
To impact the deaf with the Word of God in their own language:
The Sign Language of Argentina.
